*runs in panting*
YES! I made it. I promised to write these “What I’m Consuming” posts twice a month, and here I am! Just in the nick of time. I’m so proud of me.
Let’s get right to it, shall we? Here is what I’m consuming right now (week of 5/21/18):
The New Yorker. I have piles and piles of these all over my house, as I can never keep up with them. But as always, I have read some amazing pieces. Some of my recent faves (that you too should read if you spend any time at all around kids between the ages of 12 and 18) include “The Promise of Vaping and the Rise of Juul” (5/14/18) and “How Fortnite Captured Teens’ Hearts and Minds” (5/21/18).
The Perfect Nanny, a national-bestselling novel by Leila Slimani that has been recommended to me by approximately fifty people which I have decided right this very second to abandon because it’s just not doing it for me.
King Tubby, one of the original musical remixers and creator of the Jamaican “dub” sound. His music makes me feel totally chill, even when doing annoying household chores. You can find a playlist of some of his most influential work from the 1960’s and 1970’s here.
Keep It!, a podcast by Crooked Media (Pod Save the World, etc.) that mashes up pop culture and politics in a hilariously disarming way. My friend Kathy turned me onto it by telling me that co-host Kara Brown reminds her of me, which to me is literally one of the BEST COMPLIMENTS EVER.
Evil Genius (Netflix, 2018). Remember the Erie, Pennsylvania “pizza bomber” from 2003? Me neither. But this four-part documentary will ensure you never forget it, and, as with so many of Netflix’s original productions, will keep you thinking about all of the strange “players” involved in this tragic bank heist (and subsequent shenanigans) for a long time.
WTForecast (iPhone app). Care for some snarky commentary and (often shockingly) foul language with your weather reports? You’ll want to grab this free app. Don’t @ me; I warned you.
What are you reading, viewing, and listening to? Help me procrastinate further by listing your current faves in the comments. Thanks!
